KEEP POWHATAN CLEAN The Powhatan Anti-Litter Council is a group of concerned citizens and civic leaders who meet monthly to address litter and recycling issues in Powhatan County. This group receives funding from a Department of Environmental Quality grant and organizes / assists events such as Operation Spruce Up, Tire Amnesty Day, James River Clean Up, School Newspaper Recycling Programs and educational programs in the county. To become involved, contact the County Extension office at 598-5640. Trash Trash Service Powhatan County provides a trash collection site in the form of a transfer station located on Mitchell Road which includes recycling stations for glass, paper, aluminum, cardboard, plastic bottles, motor oil, and metal. There is no charge for household trash. Disposal of tires, Freon containing appliances, and construction materials is available for a fee. There are also several private refuse companies that will collect your trash on a regular schedule at your home. Recycling Now proper preparation of your recyclables is even easier. Residents no longer need to separate plastics, glass and metal. Remember it is important to keep our County's recyclables marketable so we can keep these items out of landfills. Please visit the website below to get details on what and how to recycle. In addition to the recycling stations at the Transfer Station, there are also newspaper recycling boxes located at all Fire Stations, Rescue Squads, and County Schools. Tire Amnesty Day This service is funded by the Anti-Litter Council to allow citizens to dispose of old tires without a fee. Since the Anti-Litter Council pays to provide this service, we must limit disposals to 10 per resident. No tires from commercial operations will be accepted! Contact the Powhatan Extension Office at 598-5640 for more information. Learn about recycling and register to win prizes by pledging to recycle and to buy recycles products!
